Credit Reporting Agencies
If you want to be sure you KNOW what information creditors will look at before applying for a loan, you must check all three credit reporting agencies. All creditors use one of these agencies and there is no way for you to know unless you the information provided to the prospective lender was used to deny you credit. You can get a report free if credit is denied. If it's something important like a mortgage or auto loan that you really need to have, it's worth the approximately $8.50 to request a report before you apply for the loan. It can take 4-8 weeks to get the reports and have enough time to complete the forms and documentation necessary to make corrections, so advance planning is required.
Phone orders tend to generate the faster results followed by a written request. Currently, on line request work but reports are that service is inconsistent. Service ranges from 5 minutes with Equifax to 12 days from Experian.
