Comedy, romance. Rated PG-13 for sexual content, some drug references and language. Dream Works. Running time 95 minutes. Rosalee, Cathy and Pete are friends who live in a small town in West Virginia. Rosalee (Kate Bosworth, "Blue Crush," "Rules of Attraction") and Cathy are madly in love with a man they have never met in person. That man is Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel, TVs "Las Vegas," "All My Children"), a hot young Hollywood actor, who displays such warmth and tenderness on screen that they are convinced he is like that in real life. Pete can’t stomach this. He carries a torch for Rosalee, who he has loved his entire life, and never told her. Meanwhile, in Hollywood the real Tad Hamilton is going through an image crisis. He is known as a fast living bad boy, who is infamous for gallivanting with every beautiful young woman with a pulse. It’s this image that costs him work, in the opinions of his manager and his agent, both named Richard Levy. So they contrive an idea to try and clean up Tad’s image ¾ a date giveaway. They figure it’s a great public relations move, to show the public that Tad has a heart beating somewhere inside his chiseled frame. While on the Internet, Cathy and Rosalee discover the contest to "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton." The winner will be flown to California, and actually go on a date with Tad. After raising the $100 entry fee, Rosalee submits her application and wins, of course. She is completely blown away in LA, which is an entire world away from her small hometown. She’s even more taken by the real Tad Hamilton, so much so that she mixes up her words and throws up in the limousine. Much to his surprise, Tad is also caught off-guard by the honest Rosalee. He’s so caught up in her down home charm that he surprises her by flying to W. Virginia, just to be closer to her. He claims that he needs her realness to allow him to latch onto something real. All this changes when Tad’s agents track him down to tell him he’s gotten the role that he’s been trying to land. He wants Rosalee to fly to LA with him ¾ to be with him during the filming of the movie. She accepts, and as she packs her best friend Pete decides to reveal his true feelings to her. This is a by the book chick flick. Perfect for teen-agers to take a date to, if you’re older than 16 or 17 years of age you might still find this movie to be cute, but you might want to consider watching a more entertaining picture. This movie isn’t bad, though it really would have been more fun to see the actors in the movie try to pull off a W. Virginia accent, but it’s charming in its way.
