Rowena Price (Oscar winner Halle Berry) is a hard-hitting investigative reporter, who goes all out to get the story, including concealing her true identity. She writes under the name of David Shane, and uses whatever alias she needs to get close to her target. We meet her as she busts a US senator, the perfect family man, for sexual misconduct with a young male intern.

A woman named Grace (Nicki Aycox), from Rowena’s past, forces Rowena to listen to her about a very big, very personal story involving a womanizing multimillionaire, Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis of Die Hard fame). Even with that prospect, Rowena seems hesitant to trust Grace, and through flashbacks we discover that they’ve known each other since childhood. There’s tension between the two women, and we begin to realize that Rowena is a woman with secrets of her own.

Grace turns up dead, and Rowena’s need to know why kicks into gear. She infiltrates Hill’s company as a temp and uses low-cut necklines and high heels to attract his attention. Not a difficult task for Halle Berry. She and her cohort and fellow journalist, tech expert Miles Haley (Giovanni Ribisi from The Dead Girl, Saving Private Ryan) set bugging devices on Hill’s computer, as he seems to pick up women online. Hill’s icy-hot wife Mia (Paula Miranda) keeps her eyes on her husband’s wandering eye. How far will she go to protect her vested interest, since she controls the money?

Miles is infatuated with Rowena, and they have an intimately flirtatious relationship. Not sexual, though it’s obvious that Miles would like that. He’s jealous when Rowena falls back into bed with her former boyfriend Cameron (Gary Dourdan from TVs “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”). And Rowena’s determination to uncover the truth leads her dangerously close to revealing her own devastating past.

There are twists and turns, and the creep factor runs high in this suspenseful drama. Suspects abound and there are no innocents here. Director James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross, and After Dark, My Sweet) and screenwriter Todd Komarnicki (working from a story by Jon Bokenkamp) weave an intricate web of intrigue.

Halle Berry delivers a striking performance, revealing a fascinating character. Giovanni Ribisi allows us to glimpse a shadow personality, usually hidden from view. Bruce Willis is the essence of cool as he tries to protect his public business and his private parts. It all comes to a stunning end…but not until the very end.
