The Summer’s best action flick (so far) is here!

Johnny Depp-Captain Jack Sparrow Geoffrey Rush-Captain Barbossa
Keira Knightley-Elizabeth Swann Orlando Bloom-Will Turner
Directed by-Gore Verbinski Producer-Jerry Bruckheimer

Bottom Line: If "The Matrix: Reloaded" was too high-tech for you, or the CGI heavy "Hulk" let you down (like it did me) some good old-fashioned swashbuckling might just be what you need this summer. Johnny Depp steals the screen, as well as a few other things, in this movie that’s as enjoyable as anything I’ve seen all year.

Story Line: For over ten years the Black Pearl has sailed the Caribbean islands, bringing with it to every dock and port fear, plunder and death. Marked by its skull and crossbones flag and black masts, sails the fabled "crew that can’t be killed," with the captain who owns a black heart. The stories are the only survivors they seem to leave.

We learn that these pirates operate under a dreaded curse that condemns them to spend the rest of eternity as the undead; a term that takes its full meaning when the crew of the Pearl is shone by the light of the moon. This curse was brought upon them when they stole an ancient Mayan treasure, and they have spent the last ten years trying to return it, as well as shed the blood of the last known person to posses it, in an effort to break the curse. Enter Jack¾ excuse me, Captain Jack Sparrow, former captain of the Pearl, who lives to reclaim his ship and put a bullet in the Pearl’s current captain, Barbossa. With the aide of the very highly skilled Will Turner, Captain Sparrow goes out for his revenge, as Turner is only out to save the life of Barbossa’s prisoner, Eilzabeth, the daughter of his town’s Governor.

Tell Me More: One thing I really like about this picture is that everything is played close to the vest. The accents, the lingo, the clothes, the hair, the pirates’ lack of hygiene, all that with the beautiful backdrop of the Caribbean islands make this picture a joy to view. Now, even if all those other ingredients weren’t in place, Johnny Depp was, and there were times it almost seemed as if Depp was showing off his amazing acting ability in the role of Sparrow. He stole every scene he was in and made this a four-star picture, in my opinion. The supporting roles were excellent as well, and Keira Knightley is as beautiful a face as I have ever seen on screen. I highly recommend this movie to everyone out there who’s in search of the same kind of enjoyable cinematic experience as I had.

Rated PG-13 for action/adventure violence
