Lincoln (Ewan McGregor, "Star Wars" and "Young Adam") and Jordan (Scarlett Johansson of "In Good Company") are residents of an environmentally controlled community set in the year 2019. Like all the other inhabitants they are programmed to believe that they are survivors of some great catastrophe that has left the outside world contaminated but they are safe here. All bodily functions and emotions are monitored and the work performed by everyone is deadly dull and repetitious. The only hope for real pleasure is to win the daily lottery and to be transported to "The Island," supposedly the last uncontaminated spot on earth.

Lincoln discovers that everything about his existence is a mirage. All of the inhabitants of the facility are human clones, with the sole purpose of providing "spare parts" (i.e., a kidney, liver or heart) for their "real" counterparts. When Lincoln realizes that Jordan’s organs are about to be harvested, they make a venturous escape. Of course, the powers that be are in hot pursuit of them and they are in a race for their lives, as they decide to confront the people who have purchased them, as a twisted sort of life insurance. Also stars Djimon Hounsou, Steve Busemi and Michael Clarke Duncan.
