Bean meets Bond

Rowan Atkinson: Johnny English
Natalie Imbruglia: Lorna Campbell
Ben Miller: Bough
John Malkovich: Pascal Sauvage
Tim Pigott-Smith: Pegasus
Directed by Peter Howitt

Bottom Line: Mr. Bean trying to be cool?  It's funnier than it sounds!

Story Line: When all of Britain's top MI5 agents are killed in an explosion, the safety of the world is left in the hands of the miraculously inept Johnny English.  He is charged with finding the thief of England's crown jewels.  With the help of his assistant, Bough, English bungles step for step, and eventually solves the caper and saves the world from a French madman.

Tell Me More: Let me tell you who you need to be to enjoy this film.  Now, if you like Mr. Bean, or his type of humor, you know who you are, but it would help if you also like spy movies because if you do, you'll laugh even harder.  This picture isn't making fun of spy movies as the  "Austin Powers" series does; it's Mr. Bean being Mr. Bean…spy.  A true spoof, if ever there was one.  This movie, if played straight, would be a good spy film but when you make Mr. Bean a spy, straight isn't an option.  You also need to bring to the theater an appreciation for sophomoric slapstick.  Rowan Atkinson is a brilliant comedic actor, but in the end that's what this movie is, all the way down to Malkovich's horrible French accent.  88 minutes of harmless fun¾enjoy!

Rated PG for comic nudity, some crude humor and language.
