The Affair of the Necklace

Set in pre-Revolutionary France, Hilary Swank plays a young aristocratic woman left penniless by the events of political unrest. She feels compelled to avenge her family's fall from grace by scheming to steal a priceless necklace.

The film is based upon the true story of Countess Jeanne de la Motte-Valois and the scandalous "Affair of the Diamond Necklace". This story was previously adapted in a 1946 film by the name of L'Affaire du Collier de la Reine which was distributed in the USA as Queen's Necklace.

Simon Baker plays the love interest of Swank.
