Joseph M. Davis was born and raised in Morrisville, Vermont. A graduate of Emerson College he has resided in Boston since 1990. A longtime fan of film critic Roger Ebert, Joe was inspired to start writing after meeting Roger, along with George and Pam Singleton, at Ebert and Roeper's first annual Film Festival at Sea.
Favorite genres in film include foreign and independent films along with classic horror and science fiction from the 1920's- 1960's. Having traveled frequently to Mexico City to visit family (his mother is Mexican) he is currently thrilled with the new wave of Mexican cinema and also enjoys the films that have been coming out of countries like France, Belgium, Denmark and Brazil since the mid 1990's.
Music is an active hobby and at one point included a stint as keyboard player, guitarist and vocalist for The Super Seven. A fan of the Montreal Expos, having grown up two-and-a-half hours away from the city, Joe travels there on a regular basis. When time allows he has also has started work on a documentary. The inspiration to do so came after seeing the "low budget" Mexican masterpiece "El Mariachi." Joe has been an active volunteer for The Big Brother Association of Greater Boston for the past eight years serving the same boy and was nominated for Big Brother of the Year in 2002 and 2003.
