30 Second Bottom Line: Michael Douglas & Albert Brooks star in a good old-fashioned comedy where an afraid of everything podiatrist & an undercover CIA agent are paired up to keep a top secret submarine out of the hands of one of the world's most dangerous smugglers.
Story Line: Imagine someone who is smooth, debonair, always in control with tons of style. He's licensed to kill, is well traveled & speaks several languages. Now imagine teaming that person up with someone who is afraid of heights, got an anxiety attack while watching an airline commercial, wears a fanny pack at all times & overall is as exciting as watching grout mildew. Not only are they paired together but, for the purposes of this movie, they are put on a mission to basically save the world. This is the backdrop for a hilarious comedy, which showcase its stars in their respective elements.
Think of what it would be like if your daughter was madly in love with a young man who you like, trust & respect. He's happy, you're happy, she's happy, the mother is happy, but now you have to meet the young man's father & when you do, a lot of strange occurrences start to happen that you can't really explain. As they build, your comfort levels with this man goes down. Your comfort level all but disappears when the FBI detain you & question you about this man.
Tell Me More About It: I really liked this movie. It has several elements that I just love in movies, the first of which being it was shot in my favorite city in the world-Chicago, Il. In addition it had two of my favorite actors, Michael Douglas & Albert Brooks. Douglas plays the cool, smooth, older secret agent as only he (& maybe Sean Connery) could & no one comes to memory who could have pulled off `worried about everything' as Brooks did. The supporting cast did a good, not great job-with the exception being Candice Bergen who is just about great all the time. The movie also lofts a few curve balls at us, some you see coming, others you don't and at least one that you NEVER would have wanted to see coming (Albert Brooks in a thong, be prepared). It's my hope that you enjoy this movie as much as I did.
Rated PG-13 for suggestive humor, language, some drug references and action violence.
