30 Second Bottom Line: A bunch of absolute morons perform dangerous stunts, inflict pain on themselves, and perform gross-out humor at its lowest¾ all while being funny.
Story Line: There isn't really a story line for this film. Basically, if you are familiar with the television show on MTV, you will know what to expect from this film. It is an extended television show with slightly more disgusting and dangerous stunts. All the stunts are performed by the creator of the Jackass franchise, Johnny Knoxville, and his team of idiots, who are familiar to anyone who has watched the television show. The stunts basically fall into three categories - life threatening, painful and hard to watch, and absolutely disgusting. Please see this movie at your own risk. Depending on who you are this could be one of the funniest or one of the worst movies you have ever seen.
Tell Me More About It: If you don't like seeing people snorting lines of wasabi, ingesting their own urine, taking a number two in their pants, and practically killing themselves playing golf cart bumper cars - this is not the film for you - I repeat, not the film for you! You will either love or hate this film. If you have an open sense of humor or you are an adolescent, this will most likely be one the funniest movies you have seen in a while. If you enjoy seeing films that have a good plot (or any plot), wit and class, and good acting, this is the worst choice you could ever make.
I am a teenage boy, and yes I enjoyed this movie. Rating this film is hard considering it isn't really a film, but I did think it was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. It wasn't smart, there is no writing, and it was disgusting - yet it made me laugh (something a lot of comedies haven't been able to make me do lately). When I saw the film there wasn't anyone over the age of 25 in the theater, except for maybe a few other critics who either felt the same way as me or became repulsed and left the theater. Yet anyone at any age could find this film funny if you have ever laughed at maybe a friend tripping or someone falling over and hurting himself- because it's natural to laugh when something uncomfortable happens. So if you fall into this category, and can stand an eighty-minute movie with nonstop jokes, fitting the three categories I listed earlier (painful, dangerous, disgusting) - this just might be the film for you.
I don't want to give too much away if you are planning on seeing the film except the opening scene is quite possibly one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen in a movie. All I will say is that involves maybe the twelve or so main idiots in this movie and loud opera music.
I'm seriously unsure if the franchise of Jackass will continue. The television show was canceled and the main star of the show and this movie, Johnny Knoxville, went on to become an actor in such films as
Men in Black 2, Deuces Wild, and Big Trouble. The rest of the cast has been starring in idiotic stunt videos for years, and this is their first mainstream opportunity. Theaters will be cracking down on underage ticket buyers, so if anyone under the age of seventeen wants to see this movie, I suggest you bring a willing parent or anyone over the age of seventeen, who also wants to see this movie.
Jackass: The Movie is definitely not for everyone. You will either love it or hate it; there is nothing in between. Some people will leave the theater in the middle of the movie; some will stay until the end credits are over - it really depends on who you are and how you react to this film.
Rating R ( nudity; violence; extreme acts of stupidity)
