Best Movies of 2002
With the interest in the Golden Globe and Oscar nominations, we decided to focus this month on the "best of list" from various movie critics.
We strongly suggest you not see a movie just because a single critic includes it as a favorite. Find a critic whose tastes you tend to agree with and double-check him/her by scanning other reviewers, so that you obtain a "critical consensus." This is especially true if you are an infrequent moviegoer, who may not be ready for something you don't expect (Solaris, Training Day, Road to Perdition, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence). What all these films have in common is an assumption by many that because they knew the star or director that they knew what to expect when they went to see the movie, and many folks were fooled. For example, "Solaris" was not action sci-fi, Denzel and Tom played bad guys and "AI" was not an updated version of "ET."
The links here are sort of a "critics reviewing the critics" list. The review linked to a film on a particular critic's Top Ten may or may not be favorable to the picture. Obviously another reviewer had a different opinion. Mixed reviews are normal, influenced by many factors. This is another reason to check out more than one critic.
Each month, we also publish the new and best selling videos, which you can find here.
We wish you a healthy and prosperous New Year.
