Arthur Herk (Stanley Tucci) makes the mistake of stealing from his bosses who are contractors that build large structures with inferior materials and no regard to code. His wife Anna (Rene Russo) and stepdaughter Jenny (Zooey Deschanel) think he is a jerk but they tolerate him because of the comfortable life style he provides.
Hit man Henry (Dennis Farina) is hiding out in Arthur's back yard, about to pull the trigger on Arthur and drop him on the other side of a large span of glass in his family room. At that exact moment Jenny's friend Matt (Ben Foster) pulls the trigger on his water gun to shoot Jenny, which is part of a prank at high school. The comic timing confuses everyone concerned and the deadly shot for Arthur just misses him and lands in the big screen TV. Officers' Ramiro and Kramitz (Janeane Garofalo and Patrick Warburton) think it's all silly fun until they find the real bullet in the busted TV.
Ivan (Daniel London) is a bar owner, with no customers, who usually makes his money by importing and selling guns from his motherland of Russia. His latest weapon, however, hidden in a suitcase, is a bomb that falls into the hands of two hapless and extremely dimwitted crooks, Snake (Tom Sizemore) and Eddie (Johnny Knoxville). Snake believes the suitcase contains jewels or lots of cash and all he wants to do is get it to the Bahamas. These guys are so dumb that they are confused about whether they should go to the departure or arrival section of the airport to leave the country. Their logic is that you might go to arrivals because you are arriving at the airport even though you want to depart!
Throw in two pretentious Federal Agents on the trail of the bomb with Presidential Commander-in-Chief authority because of "national security" and the game is on. Will the bomb be found in time to save the city of Miami or Bermuda from becoming a modern day Hiroshima?
We loved watching this large and wonderful ensemble cast carry off a fast moving plot that is hilarious, with punch lines that are not simply part of a stand up comedy routine. Based upon his book of the same title, Dave Barry's humor borders on genius. If you are looking for adult humor that is a little twisted and totally fresh, don't miss "Big Trouble."
