30-second bottom line: Your significant other, who knows you are having an open sexual relationship, and is probably participating with you, is as strange a situation as you think it might be.
Story Line: "Swinging" means that a couple will OK not only having sex outside of marriage, but will include strangers along with their spouse. As there are alcoholics, "Sex with Strangers" proves there are sexaholics. We all have sexual fantasies, so there is a part of me that says "who am I to judge?" Some people want to spend a few days at a fancy resort in Napa Valley, while the folks in this film prefer to attend local "swing" clubs or have parties in an RV parked outside of nightclubs.
We follow three couples, each very different, but all swingers. James fell in love with Theresa when he saw her cleaning a man's genitals while in the IC unit after having open-heart surgery. They love the chase and when they meet people they like, they bring them to their motor home for sex. They even keep a scrapbook of various X-rated activities, which are only hinted at on screen. This film premiered on TV's Showtime, so the porn is soft rather than hard.
Calvin & Sara, a swinging couple who likes to party and have group sex, hit a snag when Calvin wants to have sex with Julie, one on one. He tells Sara, "Go to a show or something" and come back later. She goes away but is not a happy camper. It's OK for Calvin to have sex with Julie, but Sara wants to be in the bed, gettin' it on at the same time.
Shannon and Gerard are swinging on the suggestion of their marriage counselor to help address issues as a result of their mutual adultery. He's all for it and while she goes along, it's clear that she does not share the enthusiasm of Theresa, Sara or Julie.
Tell me more about it: If this sounds a little freaky to you, join the club. That said, I found the film interesting and informative. These are consenting adults and other than what appears to me to be reckless sex (gay circuit parties don't have anything on these folks), if its OK with them, its OK with me. The use of condoms seems somewhat of a joke when oral sex (as in bury your face in it, or try not to choke on it) appears to counterbalance whatever precautions and less pleasure one gets by using a condom or other protection.
Even Ron Jeremy from "Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy" could not pull this movie off. Shannon and Gerard seem to have taken the next step away from couples drawing for house keys to determine who sleeps together. Calvin, Sara and Julie appear to be very confused people who are out there on a sexual tangent. James and Theresa are the ones that get to you the most because they seem to understand what they are doing and love it. After you see "Sex With Strangers," the term "house party" will have new meaning.
