The Rock's on a roll!

Mathayus- Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ("WWF No Way Out, Royal Rumble")
Cassandra- Kelly Hu ("Martial Law/Nash Bridges")
Memnon- Steven Brand ("The Savages/Love in the 21st Century)
Director- Chuck Russell ("Bless The Child, Eraser, The Mask,

30 Second Bottom Line: "The most electrifying man in sports entertainment" stars in this scantily clad barbarian flesh flick.

Story Line: The movie begins telling us of the "…greatest swordsman who ever lived," Memnon, the leader of a ruthless hoard, hell bent on ruling all people of the desert. Memnon grows stronger after every victory, with the aid of a seer who ensures victory before the battles even begin. All those who aren't defeated or don't surrender are slaughtered.

A small, disorganized opposition reluctantly agrees to hire the remainder of a small tribe of highly skilled assassins, the Akkadians. These assassins are to murder the sorcerer, and with it, the source of Memnon's power. Enter our hero Mathayus, played by The Rock. Conflict arises when the 20 blood rubies Mathayus is given to complete his task proves not enough to make him put an arrow through the beautiful sorcerer Cassandra, played by Kelly Hu. As it turns out Cassandra is more of a prisoner of Memnon than an ally. We also find out that there is more to Mathayus than swords and arrows, pecs and death.

Tell Me More About It: I will come clean, I am a HUGE fan of the Rock and of sports entertainment period. When The Rock first debuted in the WWF in the late `90's, he was as forgettable a character as the poor chumps who lost to Hulk Hogan every week in the 1980's. To see him build his persona to the level of marketability he has attained is a proud moment for all professional wrestling fans that respect the unique nature of the entertainment The Rock and his comrades provide.

With this in mind, I think that's one of the only faults I can find with this film. Dwayne Johnson is a personable, college-educated man from Miami, Florida and his believability as a barbaric warrior from 5000 years ago is pretty low. But c'mon, there is a reason Robert De Niro didn't get this role and The Rock did folks. He's 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 250 lbs, and women who can't even spell WWF will stop dead in their tracks when he's on screen. This movie is what it is and does what it advertises it's going to do very well.

Rated PG-13 for barbaric violence and tons of skin (some sensuality)
